Review Lowepro Flipside 300
The Lowepro Flipside 300 looks weird at first sight. He has a remarkably rectangular shape and is built highly. An immediately striking feature is the large and strengthened handle on top. While Lowepro makes many backpacks with only one shoulder strap, the Lowepro Flipside 300 has two shoulder straps.

What will fit in? |
The camera with lens is in length in the middle of this bag. This lens can therefore be long; a 70-200 mm 2.8 including lens hood is not a problem. On the left, the compartments are slightly smaller, suitable for flash, lens hood or other small items. On the right, the compartments are a little wider, and two lenses fit in here. Even the broad 24-105 mm fits inside, but with separate hood. This bag is higher than many other bags, because of this, a camera with a height of 15 cm fits. There is a compartment, closed with a zip, in the top of the bag. This is fastened with Velcro and can be wholly removed. That way you create some extra space, but is it a bit puzzling what to do with the dividers. The given sizes do not include this compartment. On the inside of the flap is a pocket with a zipper for things like business cards, grey card, etc. But there is no separate compartment for personal items. On the side is a compartment for securities including clip. On the other side is a gauze for a drinking bottle. On the front is a strap for the tripod. From the bottom, a separate type of bag can be pried for the tripod, so it will not drop while walking.

Design and finishing |
It is a very sturdy bag of which the stitching is done carefully. In the front, the bag is of reinforced material and always stays in the same form. The back is made of softer material. The two back straps are of the same material and with a rough, canvas edge. The seams are well finished and form beautiful lines on the front of the bag. The zipper on the side has no loose flap against rain, the zipper on the back does have this though. I also miss the rain cover. There are few compartments on the outside; this is good because that reduces the risk of leaks and saves weight. The bottom and front have no extra protection against dirt and water.

Wearing comfort |

The two shoulder straps are made of strong material and are easy to adjust. The back is made of a soft netting; still the canvas edge makes it a little rougher. Also the rear of the bag is of this material. Between the two shoulder straps is a band so that the shoulder straps remain in place. A non-padded waist belt is also available. This has, due to the size of the bag, become more of a stomach belt, which does not increase the comfort. At the top is a sturdy and well-padded handle. Also there is a small, non-padded tab, which is convenient if you want to hang the bag on a peg. |

Convenience |
The flap to get to the camera is surprisingly at the back. The bag must therefore be placed at the front to get the equipment out. This has advantages. If you would put the bag in the normal way on a damp surface, the shoulder straps and backside become wet. If you then carry the bag, you get a wet back. Also, it makes the bag less prone to theft; opening up a zipper which is placed against the back unnoticed is difficult. The flap is so large, that you can get to all the equipment at once. However, the zipper does not go all the way to the bottom, thus the flap jumps back again and again. This zipper is easy which cannot be said about the small side zipper. Conveniently, this bag is square at the top and not rounded. This saves space and oddly enough also time. You can therefore quickly put the camera in its bag. |

Cons

The Lowepro Flipside 300 is a high backpack so that a long lens can be included. There is also room for two lenses and all sorts of small things. Due to the large opening at the back, the content is easily accessible. The design and finish are good, but I miss a good protection against dirt and water when you put down the bag. Because of the good cushioning and easy adjustment of the straps, the level of wearing comfort is high. The bag is nicely finished and the interior is very functional. The Lowepro Flipside 300 is a spacious and relatively light bag that is very comfortable. |
