Nikon AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR
For those who want to photograph birds in the Netherlands, the focal length can never be long enough. Bluethroat, blackcap, blue tit or warbler?
Just as important as the focal length are fast AF and a manageable size of the lens that you have with you. Good telephoto lenses with a long focal length are almost without exception big and heavy. Finally, a zoom lens is an added bonus for nature shots, since you usually do not have the option of moving closer for good composition without chasing off your subject.
The Nikon AF-S 200-500mm scores on all these points. Mount this reasonably sized and affordable telephoto lens on a camera with a DX sensor: a D7200/D5500 for high resolution or a D500 for the incredibly good (accurate and fast) AF. If you combine the 200-500mm with a 1.4x converter, you can still take advantage of the AF, although it becomes slower, while you bring the subject even closer.
